Tom Utley had a distinguished career in the commercial art field in Los Angeles and San Diego, California for over 20 years.  During this time, his passion for fine art lead him to show in many galleries throughout Southern California.  He regularly sold out at the Mayfair Gallery in Encinitas, the Signal Hill Gallery in Long Beach where he also participated in the Vietnam Veterans Show and curated several gallery shows.


Tom's commercial work included the Beach Boys' Still Cruisin' album cover and single, scenic work on the movie Titanic, art direction and production design on TV shows Renegade and Silk Stalkings.  He designed the interior and exterior of Studio Diner in San Diego.


Retiring to Florida, Tom continued his alcohol ink paintings in bright vivid colors created by moving the ink on a canvas or board with a hair dryer to create abstract flowers and also, he creates three-dimensional relief sculptures of wildlife.  His love of nature shows in his sculptures of Great Blue Herons, Bald Eagles, swans, ducks, geese, birds, pheasants, mangroves and other nature settings.


Mr. Utley's "Bag Lady of Los Angeles" was chosen by Orlando Magazine in 2012 for a  show at the Avalon Gallery in downtown Orlando where it was the featured piece.  In 2013, Orlando Magazine again chose one of Mr. Utley's pieces, this time one of his metal sculptures of an Eagle, for the show also at the Avalon Gallery.
